COMMUNITY CLEANUP ON JUNE 12TH A SUCCESS THANKS TO OUR VOLUNTEERS

(July 29, 2021) The cool spring weather on June 12th attracted a record 28 volunteers to join La Casa’s community clean up at our early childhood centers located at 201 and 202 First Street in Newark’s north end. The volunteers ranged from Newark community leaders, volunteers visiting Newark for the very first time, La Casa staff and their families, to La Casa preschool alumni who are now young adults.

Together, the team cleaned up the weeds and hedges, picked up garbage and debris, trimmed trees, and painted over graffiti, making a significant transformation at the two preschool centers, which house more than 100 preschool children, infants, and toddlers.

The clean-up was held in celebration of NeighborWorks Week, a week that showcases how the NeighborWorks America network strengthens communities and celebrates its collective impact. La Casa is a proud NeighborWorks America member.

“I found you guys on Instagram. We both grew up in the La Casa preschool program. I go to Boston College now and my cousin goes to North Star Academy.  I thought it would be a great idea to help the neighborhood out since I’m back home from college. The semesters are over for both of us and we just wanted to help out the community and give back to who helped us when we were kids in La Casa’s preschool.”
