La Casa de Don Pedro’s signature annual event returns this May to NICO Kitchen + Bar at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark on Tuesday, May 8th 6pm-9pm.

La Casa es su Casa will celebrate the milestones and honor the heroes who are moving the needle in making New Jersey’s communities healthier.  Our Theme, “Health Matters” explores the growing awareness about the social determinants of health. It will share La Casa de Don Pedro’s role – and responsibility – as a comprehensive, community development organization to help guide our community on a path to progress by addressing all of the factors – from education, housing, employment, social supports, access to health services, and more -  to enhance people’s quality of life and to allow them to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.

We are thrilled to announce our evening’s honorees:

Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver

Dr. Denise V. Rodgers, Vice Chancellor for Interprofessional Programs at Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences

Pamela Clarke, Ph.D., MBA, President & CEO of Newark Community Health Centers

La Casa de Don Pedro applauds Lt. Governor Oliver who exemplifies service to New Jersey.  From being a community organizer in East Orange, serving as this region’s Assemblywoman, to her achievement as the newest Lt. Governor with her dual role as Commissioner of New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, we admire her commitment to underserved communities, tenacity, and grace.

Dr. Rodgers and Dr. Clarke are two pillars of Newark’s health community who have been paving the way for change in Newark, working to ensure health providers and the public and private sector work together, collaboratively, to move the needle in making Greater Newark a healthy community.

Alexandra Hill, Afternoon News Anchor, and Reporter with WBGO 88.3FM will serve as the evening’s host. Afrocuba Band will provide live music.
