Low Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) Program

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is designed to help low-income families and individuals meet home heating and medically necessary cooling costs. The application period is normally from November through to April which is the “winter heating season,” but the application deadline for 2019 has been extended to August 31, 2019.

Essex County residents can download the application below or contact La Casa de Don Pedro for more information on how to apply.

For persons age 60 or over, or who are disabled, applications may be received and returned by mail or they may be subject to an in-the-home application intake by appointment or scheduled visits to multi-family senior citizen buildings. Households may submit their application or “recertification” by mail or use a convenient drop off box at any of La Casa’s centers or La Casa stations in PSEG offices in downtown Newark and West Orange.
