#ProjectBackpack

Our donors helped La Casa de Don Pedro distribute quality school supplies for more than 400 children this past fall.

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, #ProjectBackpack, La Casa’s annual back to school drive was sustained in 2020.  We couldn’t hold it the same way as we always do – as an activity held during Festival de la Familia, because that event was cancelled.  Nonetheless, our friends came through for us once again and we were able to distribute approximately $20,000 worth of school supplies to about more than 400 children.  This means that those children received all the critical supplies they needed to be prepared for school including backpacks, calculators, head sets, pencils, and notebooks.

Organizations such as M&T Bank stepped up in a major way, distributing 96 backpacks with school supplies to our school age children program participants. Elisa Quinche, Vice President at M&T Bank, said of the drive, “M&T Bank’s HOLA! Metro team looks forward to partnering with Casa de Don Pedro every year to help with #ProjectBackpack. To be able to give back to the community we serve is really important to us. Especially during times like this, we find it even more important be present in our communities and to actively help students as they prepared to return to a new norm of virtual school learning.”

Union Thunder Youth Hockey League supported La Casa in a major way as well by rallying the families of the youth, raising more than $4,000.

Regardless of the fact that school is largely remote, kids still need to be prepared and thanks to our donors, our Early Childhood Education students, elementary-aged after school program students, and our alternative high school youth now have what they need to be successful.

Thank you to our Project Backpack 2020 Donors!
