Information on the Vaccine for Children
Children ages 5 to 11 are also eligible to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine and are encouraged to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible, following the authorization and recommendation of the vaccine by the FDA and CDC.
The pediatric Pfizer vaccine is administered as a two-dose vaccine, three weeks apart, at a lower dose than the dosage for those ages 12 and older.
Children ages 12 and over are eligible to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine using the same dosage as adults age 17 and over.
Covid-19 Booster Information
Everyone age 12 and older is eligible to get a COVID-19 booster dose. The best way to protect yourself from COVID-19 is to get vaccinated and boosted if eligible.
- Moderna recipients age 18 and older: should get a booster at least 6 months after second shot.
- Pfizer recipients age 12 and older should get a booster at least 5 months after second shot.
- Johnson & Johnson recipients age 18 and older should get a Pfizer or Moderna booster at least 2 months after initial shot.
- People age 50 and over are now eligible to get a second booster shot after their first booster shot!
The Pfizer “booster” shot is a single dose of the Pfizer vaccine, which contains 30 micrograms of MRNA. The Moderna “booster’ is a half dose of the initial vaccine. The initial vaccine has 100 micrograms of MRNA, meaning the booster has 50 micrograms of MRNA in it. Here’s an article from December 2021 from MSNBC for more information on deciding between the two boosters.
