Health Services

La Casa de Don Pedro’s health services programming has three components: education programs that impart critical information related to achieving healthy life styles, early detection, prevention of illness and referrals for medical attention; health care referral services; and public education and case management for HIV/AIDS clients.


Health Education

As part of on-going collaborations with health care providers and health services, La Casa provides educational workshops on subjects that affect the community, such as diabetes, obesity, and asthma, with a focus on awareness and prevention. The purpose of these forums is to expose and educate the public to the causes, symptoms and treatments of illnesses and diseases commonly found in the community and subgroups of clients.

Health Care Referrals

La Casa De Don Pedro’s collaboration with health care providers permits us to refer clients for appropriate medical attention; including access to NJ FamilyCare insurance, testing and direct referrals for medical services. La Casa also collaborates with the Federal Health Care Clinics, where medical attention can be obtained at little to no cost. The referrals to the Federal Health Care Clinic are made without regards to residency or citizenship.

HIV and Sexually Transmitted Diseases Prevention Program

Prevention of HIV/AIDS is promoted through educational and public awareness campaigns as well as outreach and counseling. Testing for HIV/AIDS is also available. Special emphasis and outreach is directed to Hispanic youth however the program is open to all persons, women and men to eliminate behavior that may put them at risk for contracting sexually transmitted diseases.

HIV/AIDS Intervention Services

La Casa provides mental health counseling, emergency assistance, and nutritional services for HIV/AIDS clients throughout Newark and its surrounding environment. For persons with these illnesses, case management is provided that supports follow-up for the medical regiment as well as assistance for housing, meals and medical transportation. Counselor and peer group activities are offered to clients and their families.

  • Open to all HIV/AIDS clients seeking counseling, medical, and nutritional assistance.
