Health Services

La Casa de Don Pedro’s health services programming includes the Healthy Living Initiative and HIV/AIDS prevention and intervention programs.  We are also an official HIV Testing Site, located at 76 Clinton Avenue.

Healthy Living Initiative

With a goal to improve  health outcomes and reduce health disparities for North Newark residents, predominantly medically underserved Latino families, La Casa provides educational workshops and health fairs on subjects that affect the community, such as diabetes, obesity, and asthma, with a focus on awareness and prevention in direct collaboration with health care providers.  The purpose of these forums is to expose and educate the public to the causes, symptoms and treatments of illnesses and diseases commonly found in the community.  We also help connect clients to appropriate medical attention, including access to NJ Family Care insurance, testing and direct referrals.  Finally, the program provides case management services for clients needing extra attention in their health issues.

Hunger Relief Initiative

We provide nutrition education and distribute food to its program participants thanks to the generous support of the Walmart Foundation, which funds programs to address hunger and nutrition education as a way to strengthen local communities. We offer enrollment assistance in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and nutrition workshops to encourage healthier eating behaviors. Table to Table is partnering with La Casa de Don Pedro and will collect prepared and perishable food that would otherwise be wasted and deliver to the program weekly.
