Antioch Baptist Church Shares Holiday Cheer to the Lower Broadway Community through La Casa’s Giving Tuesday Holiday Fundraiser

(January 3, 2021) Each holiday season dozens of generous people, including families, businesses and corporations large and small, business affinity groups, universities, fraternities, and faith-based communities to join La Casa de Don Pedro to provide thousands of toys and hundreds of grocery bags full of food to Newark families in need of extra support. We coined the campaign the Giving Tuesday Holiday Fundraiser because it starts on Giving Tuesday, the day of giving that falls on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

We are pleased to profile Antioch Baptist Church, one of our generous donors located in Springfield, New Jersey.

For three of the past four years (the COVID Grinch spoiled 2020), Pastor Milton Hobbs and the Antioch Baptist family have provided food, clothing, and hundreds of unwrapped toys generously donated by the Antioch congregation, their families, friends, and neighbors.

2021 was another generous year. La Casa de Don Pedro’s Community Organizing team received an enormous sack full of holiday cheer this holiday season from our friends at the Church. Their donation allowed the team to return to our neighbors and friends in the Lower Broadway neighborhood and residents of Wynona Lipman Gardens (WLG) on December 21st armed with several hundred holiday gifts.

“With the recent spike in COVID, being able to bring some joy and normalcy into the lives of our friends and neighbors is at the heart of what we try to do every day at La Casa,” said La Casa’s Director of Community and Economic Development Louis Prezeau.

Working with Pastor Hobbs and WLG Tenant Association President Towanna Jennings, La Casa’s staff delivered carloads of Christmas cheer to hundreds of boys and girls, bringing added joy to their Holiday Season.

“Being blessed with partners like Pastor Hobbs and Antioch Baptist allows us build our relationships with community stakeholders like Towanna and our neighbors at Wynona Lipman Gardens while providing some memorable Holiday moments for hundreds of families,”  said Prezeau.

La Casa de Don Pedro is grateful to all of our generous donors. Find the complete list of Giving Tuesday donors here.
