Celebrating NeighborWorks Week 2021!

(June 10, 2021) La Casa de Don Pedro is a chartered member of the NeighborWorks® America network, a nationwide network of more than 240 trained and certified community development organizations at work in nearly 4,000 communities across America. Working in partnership with others, NeighborWorks® organizations are leaders in revitalizing communities and creating affordable housing opportunities for low-and moderate-income families.

NeighborWorks® America is a national nonprofit organization created by Congress in 1978 to provide financial support, technical assistance, and training for community-based revitalization efforts. The Corporation supports a network of nearly 240 NeighborWorks® organizations that build decent, affordable housing, strengthen communities and enhance economic support.

As a NeighborWorks® organization, La Casa is dedicated to building partnerships with individual families, neighborhood leaders, and others who care about and invest in our community. We welcome the involvement of corporations, foundations, nonprofit organizations, government entities, and residents that share our commitment to strengthening our community.

Through NeighborWorks®, La Casa has access to financial resources, tools, training opportunities, and the experience of hundreds of colleagues from around the country who can help us make Newark a better place to live. Rather than just build housing, we help residents revitalize entire neighborhoods by helping to develop skilled grassroots citizen leaders and provide Newark residents access to valuable financial, social, and educational resources that can improve their quality of life. In short, La Casa builds community.

In the last 3 months alone, La Casa has:

  • Provided over 500 households with groceries; fresh fruits and vegetables; and prepared meals worth over $40,000.
  • Provided 66 Essex County Seniors with Emergency Fuel Oil and Heating System Repairs valued at $41,882.
  • Provided over 1,900 Low Income Essex County residents with over $500,000 in Utility Bill Assistance.
  • Provided more than 97 households with First Time Home Buyer and Financial Literacy Education that resulted in 38 new Homeowners created and investment of almost $13,000,000 in our community.

Also, to celebrate NeighborWorks Week 2021, this Saturday, June 12th, La Casa will be hosting a Community Cleanup in the North Ward of Newark! There’s still slots left to volunteer. E-mail us at info@lacasanwk.org to register by June 11!
