FAREWELL TO ONE OF LA CASA’S MOST TENURED AND WELL-RESPECTED EDUCATORS: WANDA RECIO

(July 29, 2021) After more than 35 years of service, we bid farewell to one of La Casa’s most beloved educators and an exemplary employee, Wanda Recio, as she moves onto the next chapter in her life.

From her early beginnings as a preschool teacher to her time as Center Director at La Casa’s Early Childhood Education Center at 39 Broadway, Mrs. Recio was well-respected and loved by her students, co-workers, and members of the community. Wanda truly embodied the culture and mission of La Casa de Don Pedro and we will always hold a special place for her in our organization. See below for some quotes from La Casa’s leadership and some of her colleagues and join us in bidding her farewell.

“As one of our longest-tenured employees, Wanda carries with her the history and legacy of what La Casa used to be and currently is. She will be sorely missed.” – Ray Ocasio, Executive Director of La Casa de Don Pedro

“Mrs. Recio’s collaboration  in  moving  La  Casa from providing Day  Care  to  serving as a  district  provider  is invaluable.  I know for a  fact all  the  support she provided to her staff in going  back to school to obtain their degree to become certified teachers. This process was essential in order for La Casa to become a formal provider of early childhood education with Newark Public Schools. It  will  be  in  my  memory our work meetings. She always  said  something  to  make the  group smile. I admire her great  commitment  of the  mission  of  La  Casa  de  Don  Pedro.  Her  35  years of dedicated  work will  be  always  in  the  memory  of parents,  employees  and  colleagues. – Josefina Terry, Center Director of 75 Park Avenue Early Childhood Center

“I have known Ms. Wanda for many years. One of the things she would always say was that we are here for the children, they are our priority. Her students meant everything to her. And every day she would make sure that they were taught well by our teachers, fed every day and kept safe in our school. She was a great Director and I will miss her dearly.”   – Julissa Torres, Administrative Assistant at 39 Broadway Early Childhood Center
