(April 28, 2021) Aligned with Newark Public Schools reopening on April 12, La Casa de Don Pedro also reopened each of our nine early childhood centers for hybrid in-person learning. More than 70% of our 540 children enrolled opted to attend school twice a week, while the remainder remain in virtual learning only.
What to expect in our early childhood education hybrid program.
Preschool classes are held in two cohorts: With no more than eight children in a classroom, Cohort A attends school in person on Mondays and Tuesdays. Cohort B is in person Thursdays and Fridays from 8:30am-12:30pm. We’re serving breakfast, a morning snack, lunch, and each child leaves with an afternoon snack. All children and teachers are virtual on Wednesdays.
Each early childhood center has an outdoor greeting station. At morning drop off, children and parents get their temperatures taken and are screened for potential exposure to Covid-19. Once all hands are sanitized and a parent signs the attendance form, the child walks over a disinfecting mat to clean their shoes, and a teacher walks them inside the school.
Once the children are in the classroom, they’ll get to experience the benefits of learning through play and engaging with their peers. From morning routines, reading time, circle time, choice time, and outdoor play to extra small groups, quality early childhood education is best when it’s done in person.
